Maid raped, thrown from window

A man in Singapore allegedly raped his neighbour's Indonesian maid twice and then tried to kill her by throwing her out of the window of a second-storey flat.

The man forced his way into the empty flat, raped the maid, cut her with a pair of scissors and tried to strangle her before throwing her off the flat, the High Court was told on Monday.

The maid, who was 26 at the time of the attack, survived the ordeal despite suffering serious injuries.

The incident took place in September 2009. The man faces five charges - two of aggravated rape and one each of attempted murder, causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, and trespassing.
