Mubarak's wife hands over property to state

Suzanne, the wife of deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, has signed documents to hand over her property to the state, Egypt's MENA news agency said.
The 70-year-old former first lady was questioned last week over suspicions that she used her husband's position to illegally amass wealth. Shortly after the questionin, a Chicago businessman charged with providing a cover to his Pakistani-American high school friend David Coleman Headley for scouting targets for the Mumbai terrorist attack,g, her 15-day detention in a Cairo prison was ordered.
It was earlier reported that the former first lady declared readiness to hand her villa in a Cairo suburb, estimated at $741,000, and a $2.8-million bank account in an Egyptian bank, which she claims was set up for charity purposes. Egyptian media reported on Sunday that the former first couple, currently being probed on suspicions of corruption and illegally amassed assets, was ready to turn over all their property to the state in an apparent move to avoid detention.
They reportedly gave such instructions to their lawyers. Meanwhile, the ex-President has also stated his readiness to hand over a $143-million bank account which he claims was set up for the needs of the Library of Alexandria. Mubarak and his family have been banned from leaving the country and their assets have been frozen. The 83-year-old former head of state and his wife are currently being held under medical supervision in a Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, while their sons — Alaa and Gamal Mubarak — are currently being kept in a prison outside Cairo.
