Myanmar preparing for Aung San Suu Kyi's release
Yangon, Myanmar: Supporters of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi have gathered at the headquarters of her political party in preparation for a release from years of detention they are certain will occur on Saturday.
Jailed or under house arrest for more than 15 of the last 21 years, the Nobel Prize laureate has become a symbol for a struggle to rid the Southeast Asian country of decades under military rule.
Her possible freedom comes as the pro-junta political party is securing a majority of seats in both house of Parliament from the country's first election in 20 years.
The partial batch of results released on Thursday confirm the victory of the Union Solidarity and Development Party in Sunday's vote, which critics say was marked by fraud and engineered to sustain the military's power.
