Neetu Chandra quizzed over Asif ties
Islamabad, Sept. 7: The allegations against Mohammad Asif, one of the Pakistani cricketers facing allegations of spot-fixing, has encouraged his ex-girlfriend, Pakistani actor Veena Malik, to allege that Bollywood actor Neetu Chandra was one of Asif’s special friends and allegedly his link with Indian bookies.
Denying these allegations, Neetu said she has nothing to do with Asif. She was on Tuesday quizzed by the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit and, according to sources, pleaded innocent. “I knew Asif was involved in fixing and I told it to everyone. Neetu Chandra was his partner,” Malik told this newspaper. “I told them (the investigators) the truth and will tell more if required.”
“I know Neetu was close to him and they were involved in this business (fixing),” she alleged. “If she is denying it, it will only be to save her skin.” Neetu’s name came up during a scan of the phone records of Asif, media reports said.
The ICC, meanwhile, has told Pak captain Salman Butt and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal to hand over their cellphone records.
