Norwegian police on Clinton detail rescue woman hostage
Norwegian police helping to protect US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were pulled away from her detail on Friday to rescue a woman in a domestic hostage situation, a US spokeswoman said.
Clinton was having lunch with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in a castle overlooking Oslo harbour at the time, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland confirmed, adding that the site itself was fully secure.
The counter-terrorism officers "were on her protective detail... Some of them were tasked to assist with this domestic situation," she said, adding that the woman was rescued.
Clinton was in Oslo for meetings with Norwegian leaders and to give a keynote speech at an international maternal health conference.
