Nuclear fears: James Bond villains blamed
A top British professor has blamed James Bond villains for giving nuclear power a bad name.
The BBC quoted Prof. David Phillips of the Royal Society of Chemistry in a report in which he claimed characters like Dr. No helped create a 'remorselessly grim reputation for atomic energy'.
Prof. Phillips was speaking ahead of the 50th anniversary of the 1962 movie, the BBC wrote.
Dr. No involved James Bond (Sean Connery) eventually foiling the maniacal villain's plan to attack the planet, from a secret Caribbean hideout, using nuclear weapons.
The movie was also set against the Cold War backdrop, bringing to the forefront underlying fears surrounding nuclear proliferation and weaponisation.
