Obamas are indifferent hosts
Socialites in Washington DC are very annoyed with their President and First Lady. They accuse President Barack Obama and wife Michelle of cold shouldering them at parties!
The magazine Women’s Wear Daily has done a story on how the Obamas unlike the Clintons, Bushs and even Reagans refuse to stand in a formal receiving line and receive guests at the White House. At White House events as well as other dos, they always stand cordoned off behind velvet ropes and just smile, wave and acknowledge the minions from afar.
Mingling is out of the question and so is touching apparently. So handshakes are out.
This is quite snobbish because when in New York, the Obamas are accused of being everywhere, and mingling freely with all the guests (read celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker) at parties not even hosted by them.
But in Washington, they only prefer each other’s company. The poor socialites are seething cos normally Presidents and their wives spend a minute chatting with every guest and pose for pictures with them. But with the Obamas, it’s just a wave that they get, unless ofcourse you are a New Yorker.
Who would have thought a day would come when they would miss Former President George W. Bush!
