One dead, 10 hurt as Israel shells Gaza
One person was killed and at least 10 were wounded on Thursday when Israeli troops shelled two separate areas in Gaza, the Palestinian emergency services said.
Emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya said one person had been killed and eight others including a small child were injured when Israeli forces shelled the Shejaiya neighbourhood in eastern Gaza City.
Shortly afterwards, another two people were wounded when the army shelled an area east of Jabaliya refugee camp, he said.
Farther south, Israeli warplanes raided a target near Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, but no one was injured, Palestinian security forces said.
The shelling came shortly after Gaza militants fired an anti-tank missile which hit a bus in southern Israel, critically wounding a teenager, as well as wounding one other person who was only lightly hurt, Israeli medics said.
The attack on the bus occurred outside kibbutz Nahal Oz, which lies directly across the border from Shejaiya.
Shortly afterwards, another 15 mortar rounds landed in southern Israel, one of which slammed into a house in a community directly opposite Deir al-Balah, an Israeli police spokesman said.
