Pak severs ties with TI
Nov. 21: The Pakistan government has asked all the ministries, departments and officials to severe contacts with Transparency International (TI) after its recent report that Pakistan has taken four steps downwards in the global corruption list, official sources said.
The TI, in its reports on November 4, said that corruption is prevalent in all government departments which makes it one of the most corrupt nations. Transparency International report shows Pakistan moving up to 34th from 42nd position in corruption list.
The interior ministry, a senior government official said, has asked all the ministries, divisions and departments to sever contacts with the TI, as the government has started investigating operations of the Pakistan chapter of the anti-corruption organisation.
As such, the authorities are trying to comprehend as to who and when permission was accorded to the TI to undertake operations in Pakistan. Officials say that any organisation damaging Pakistan’s reputation can’t be allowed to function.
