Pakistan issues over 60 visas to CIA officials

Pakistan has issued five dozen visas to CIA officials with the understanding that all intelligence postings in the country would be “fully disclosed”, it was reported here on Thursday.

Pakistan embassy sources in Washington told the Dawn that 67 visas have been issued to CIA officials for their deployment in Pakistan. The ties between Islamabad and Washington have been considerably strained since early this year after US official Raymond Davis shot dead two Pakistanis in Lahore in January. The decision to issue the visas comes after an understanding between the two countries on CIA deployment in Pakistan.

“Under the new arrangement, the CIA has accepted Islamabad’s demand that all intelligence postings in the country should be fully disclosed, and shared with the Pakistani Government,” the daily Dawn quoted sources as saying.

“Pakistan agreed to issue the visas only after an understanding on full disclosures.” A diplomatic source said: “Now the ISI will be fully aware of who is doing what and where he is posted at.”
