Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari discharged from hospital

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who abruptly flew out of the country last week triggering speculations of a coup, has been discharged from a Dubai hospital, authorities said.

Zardari has now moved to his residence in Dubai, a brief statement issued by president's spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said here on Wednesday night.

The president's physician Khaldoun Taha who has been treating Zardari at the American Hospital in Dubai said all medical investigations carried out were within the normal range.

Zardari had been admitted to the hospital after he reported numbness and twitching in his left arm, said Associated Press of Pakistan. There had been a lot of confusion over the president's health.

Initial reports had said that he had flown out of Pakistan over a heart ailment. While Pakistan Army doctors had declared him fit, a US based magazine said he had suffered a minor heart attack.

Later media reports said he had suffered a stroke that caused bleeding in the brain and facial paralysis. There were also rumours of a military coup, which the US scotched.

"They think that I have fled but escape is not an option. I will never leave as I was born in Pakistan and I will die in Pakistan. I will return in a few days and my enemies will be disappointed," Zardari told a Pakistani TV channel.
