Pakistan, US are ‘bhai-bhai’ again
After weeks of tension and exchange of hostile statements, Pakistan and the United States of America are set to forget the past and work together, officials here said citing numerous recent meetings between the two sides.
“There is an understanding of the fact that both (Pakistan and the US) cannot do without each other so they have to work together. The two sides have agreed to improve confidence in each other,” a senior government official, privy to the latest meetings, told this newspaper.
Another official said US secretary of state Hillary Clinton will visit Pakistan this week as part of a tour of Muslim countries deeply engaged by Washington.
During the tour, Ms Clinton is scheduled to hold talks with leaders of the National Transition Council in Libya, and with the Presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the government official said.
Ms Clinton is expected to arrive in Islamabad mid-week and stay for one day. During that time, she is scheduled to deliver what the sources described as an “Af-Pak policy statement” in an address to Pakistani defence and strategic affairs analysts.
