Palin endorses article likening Obama to Hitler
America’s glamorous politician Sarah Palin is in the news again — this time for endorsing an article which likens US President Barack Obama to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
In a message on her micro-blogging site Twitter’s home page, the 46-year-old has urged her followers to read the article likening Mr Obama to Hitler in the way the US P
resident pressured British Petroleum to set aside $20 billion for oil spill damage claims, the politico.com reported. “This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab. Read Thomas Sowell’s article,” Palin said in her note to followers on Twitter.
The article the former Alaskan governor has pointed to was published on Monday in Investors Business Daily and alikens Mr Obama to Hitler, saying the US President is stripping away the freedom of his citizens without mass protest.
“When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.
“In our times, American democracy is being dismantled piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it,” he wrote. In the short article, Mr Sowell has also asserted that President Obama seized broader and unconstitutional power when he pressurised BP to create the $20 billion escrow fund for payments to people hurt by oil spill off Gulf Coast.
“Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a President has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Now-here,” the columnist wrote. “And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill,” he wrote and even compared the American public under Mr Obama to the “useful idiots” who followed Lenin’s creation of the erstwhile USSR. —PTI
