Petition against Musharraf in Pak court

The first petition filed in the reinstated Islamabad high court on Monday called for action against former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for violating the Constitution and promulgating a graft amnesty in 2008 that benefited thousands of people.

A local resident named Shahjahan Khan Durrani filed the petition against Mr Musharraf, who has been living in Britain in self-exile since 2009.

The petition alleged that Mr Musharraf was responsible for violating the Constitution and promulgating the National Reconciliation Ordinance, a graft amnesty that benefited over 8,000 people, including President Asif Ali Zardari.

Mr Durrani asked the court to take action against Mr Musharraf for his alleged role in preventing the assassination of former Premier Benazir Bhutto, for ordering the 2006 military operation that killed Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and his "double standards" in the war on terror.

The petition said the court should direct authorities to bring Mr Musharraf back to Pakistan.

The petition further asked the court to take action against Mr Musharraf’s spokesman Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi and his aide Muhammad Ali Saif for providing "wrong advice" to the former military ruler.

Mr Musharraf has dismissed the charges levelled against him in a slew of criminal cases and the police complaints filed across Pakistan.
