Police foils life bid on Zardari
The Pakistani police has claimed the arrest a gang plotting assassination of President Asif Ali Zardari. “We have arrested six suspects. They were planning an attack on President Zardari and some other important points,” a police official said. He added, “They had planned to assassinate President Zardari during his recent visit to the Governor’s House (in Lahore).”
The intelligence agencies and police, after learning of the possible plot to assassinate the President in a joint act, have arrested six terrorists, he said. These terrorists had been plotting for the past six months to target the Governor’s House when President Zardari was there on a visit and they had intention to hit four gates to force their entry in the highly guarded house. “Anti aircraft guns and documents containing information about the Governor’s House have been recovered from the possession of arrested terrorists,” the police official said. He said the terrorists had also planned to hit Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore and another worship place of the minority Ahmadiya community in the cantonment area. Mr Zardari’s wife, Benazir Bhutto — a two-time PM, was assassinated in December 2007.
