Python orgy sparks search for 7m-monster snake in Oz
A number of pythons that gathered for an orgy in a boatshed roof of a canoe club in Australia have sparked off a search for a 7m female snake nicknamed ‘Nigini’.
According to the Cairns Post, the six scrub pythons, all at least 3.5m long, were found in a boatshed roof of the Yorkeys Knob-based Hekili Outrigger Canoe Club, News.com.au reported.
The pythons made such a romantic ruckus that parts of the roof started breaking away, and attempts to catch them have proved futile as they are at a narrow section of the roof, which is unreachable.
Hekili Outrigger Canoe Club coach Sue Lockwood said one of the large snakes startled a club member after it was seen poking out of the ceiling when she went to retrieve a canoe.
Dave Walton from Cairns Snake Removals caught a 3.5m python and a 4.5m python at the clubhouse. They will be released into the wild.
It is the second time in two years snakes have caused a ruckus at the building, with Walton nearly catching Nigini back in 2009 before she gave him the slithery slip.
Walton believes there are still four more pythons living in the roof, including the elusive female.
