Quake hits eastern Turkey: television
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Turkey on Sunday, reported the private NTV television.
Several houses were collapsed after the quake in Van province in eastern Turkey, said the Anatolia news agency, adding that aftershocks were continuing.
The quake was also felt in the neighbouring provinces, said media reports.
Turkey is earthquake-prone due to being crossed by several fault lines.
In 1999, two strong quakes in the heavily-populated and industrialised regions of northwest Turkey left some 20,000 dead.
An earthquake in Kutahya province in 1970 killed more than 1,000 people.
