Quake hits Japan, triggers tsunami
Tokyo: A magnitude-7.9 earthquake hit northeastern Japan on Friday, generating a tsunami as high as six metres that was likely to hit the coast of Miyagi, the Meteorological Agency said.
A tsunami advisory was issued in wide areas of the eastern coast.
The quake, which hit at 2.45 p.m. (0545 GMT), shook buildings in Tokyo violently.
No immediate injuries were reported. Some buildings in Tokyo had caught fire, broadcaster NHK said.
