Quake jolts northwest Pak; five injured
An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 rocked Peshawar and other parts of northwest Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, leaving at least five persons injured.
Apart from Peshawar, the quake jolted Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Dir, Balakot, Haripur, Manshera, Abbotabad and the Khyber tribal region at 8.59 am local time, officials said.
The epicentre of the temblor was located 280 km northwest at the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, they said. A state-run rescue service said a teacher and four students at a girls' school in Shabqadar town of Charsadda district were injured during a stampede triggered by the earthquake.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition was described as stable.
