Queen’s speech leaked a day ahead in Britain
The Tory-LibDem coalition’s legislative agenda, which will be revealed by Queen Elizabeth II at the joint sitting of the House of Commons and the House of Lords on Tuesday for the state opening of Parliament, has been leaked.
The coalition will set out at least 21 parliamentary bills in 18 months, according to the leaked details of the speech published by the Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Mirror newspapers.
School reforms and plans to scrap ID cards will be introduced immediately, the leaked draft of the Queen’s speech revealed. Legislations linked to political reform, which is overseen by deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, will be introduced in the following weeks.
Queen Elizabeth II will reiterate in the speech that the coalition government’s first priority will be to “reduce the deficit and restore economic growth” and to “accelerate the reduction of the structural budget deficit.” She will also outline government plans to make tax and benefits “fairer and simpler.”
The coalition government on Monday will give details of how it will cut £6 billion from government spending this year. Chancellor of exchequer George Osborne and his Lib Dem deputy David Laws will announce details of how they will make £6 billion in “emergency” savings, which includes £513 million from cutting funding to quangos.
