Queen in battle with hubby over birthday celebrations: Report
Britain's Queen and her husband Prince Philip are said to be locked in a battle of wills over his 90th birthday celebrations. While the Monarch wants "something special", Prince Philip — in his typically modest fashion — doesn't want much fuss for the milestone birthday next June, the 'Daily Mail' reported, quoting royal courtiers. "There is a bit of a battle going on. There is talk of a concert or something to that effect, but the Queen also thinks there should be something special to mark the occasion. However, Philip is digging his heels in and says he doesn’t want any fuss. "At the moment, there is nothing in place which is unusual because the Palace always plans months ahead. They are already working on the Diamond Jubilee, which isn't until 2012," a Buckingham Palace aide was quoted as saying. Traditionally, Prince Philip's birthday is marked with a 62-gun salute fired from the Tower of London. Buckingham Palace last night said it would not be discussing plans "until nearer the time" but Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who wrote 'A Birthday Card for Prince Charles' to mark his 60th, is hard at work composing a piece for Prince Philip. The Queen loves throwing parties. She treated her family to a cruise of Western Isles this summer to celebrate Prince Andrew's 50th birthday, and she threw a lavish do at Windsor Castle for 600 guests when Philip turned 80. A thanksgiving service was also held at St George's Chapel, which saw the biggest royal gathering since Prince Edward married Sophie Wessex. Courtiers are hoping to follow a similar arrangements for Philip's 90th birthday.
