Russia hopes US mid-terms won't affect ties: Lavrov
Russia said on Friday it hopes the outcome of the US mid-term elections will not affect ties between Moscow and Washington.
Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said he hoped Washington's understanding of its "core national interests" would prevail over any "immediate rush to outplay the opposite party in Congress and on the internal front".
Lavrov was answering a question on how the polls, in which the Republicans seized control of the House of Representatives, would affect efforts to "reset" relations with Moscow.
The foreign minister said the United States would only benefit from "equal cooperation" with Russia. But he added: "Domestic problems in the US have always played a very significant role which manifested itself in foreign policy too."
