Russian moms protest Norway taking away their kids

As confusion mounted over the future of two Indian children in the custody of Norwegian Child Welfare Service, protests were held in different Russian cities by women whose children were taken away from them in the Scandinavian country, a media report said.

The protests against Norwegian Child Welfare Service (Barnevernet) were held on Monday outside Norway's embassies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, and Arkhangelsk, reported The Nordic Page.

The case of the Russian women was similar to that of an Indian couple whose two children were taken under protective care in last May in Norway on the ground that they were not looked after properly by their parents.

In Russia, the demonstration took place to mobilise support for Russian parents who were separated from the guardianship of children in foreign countries.

The protesters demanded the release of 15 Russian children who have been removed from their Russian parents and placed in Norwegian foster families.

Maya Kasaeva, a protestor, said that she has been deported to Russia after her son was taken eight years ago. She wants her son back.

The protesters said that the only solution to this problem would be the signing of an agreement between Norway and Russia.
