At secret meet, ISI chief tells Pervez to stay in exile
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha, met former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf se-cretly in Dubai and advised him not to return from exile as the situation was not conducive for him, several Pakistani TV channels and newspapers reported.
“Gen. Pasha, who has remained very close to Pervez Musharraf, held a meeting with him in Dubai and advised him not to return to the country as the situation is not conducive for his return,” an unna-med source was quoting as saying by a TV channel.
It is not yet clear whether the meeting was held on the directions of the PPP-led government or if it was a private meeting. Sources said that Gen. Pasha enjoys a long history with the former dictator. In 2008, during the last year of Mr Musharraf’s rule, Gen. Pasha was appointed to the key post of director-general of military operations.
Later Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, after becoming Chief of Army Staff, promoted him to lieutenant-general and appointed him ISI chief. Two important cases against Mr Mushar-raf are currently registered in Pakistan. An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has already declared Mr Musharraf a proclaimed offender in the Benazir Bhutto murder case.
