Senior ANP leader gunned down in Pakistan
A senior leader of the Awami National Party was gunned down by suspected militants in Pakistan’s restive northwest on Monday, police said.
Sabihullah Khan, who was the vice-president of a local chapter of the ANP, was gunned down in Battagram area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police said Mr Khan was on his way home when unidentified gunmen intercepted his car and opened fire.
He was killed instantly while a friend was injured in the shooting.
No group claimed responsibility for the incident though such attacks are usually blamed on the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Scores of workers and leaders of the ANP have died in attacks by the Taliban over the past four years.
The ANP rules Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and is a partner in the ruling coalition at the centre.
