Strong 6.1 earthquake hits Eastern Tajikistan: USGS
A strong 6.1 earthquake hit a mountainous area of Eastern Tajikistan early on Monday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at 7:45 am local time (0245 GMT), was located 106 kilometers southwest of the city of Karakul, near the country's border with China, it said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The reading was based on the open-ended moment magnitude scale, now used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.
