Surgeons save foetus after tumour operation in womb
Doctors at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida have removed a tumour from the mouth of a foetus which has been described as the 'world's first' procedure.
Mother Tammy Gonzalez said that she could see a bubble coming out of her baby's mouth after she underwent a scan during the 17th week of her pregnancy.
Surgeons claimed that it was a very rare tumour called an oral teratoma and had seen only once in 20 years in the hospital. They also claimed that there was very little chance that the baby would survive.
The operation lasted just over an hour. Baby was born five months after the pioneering surgeory was done. 20-month-old baby is healthy now.
