Swedish professor charged for eating wife’s lip

According to TheLocal.se, the 52-year-old man said to be a resA university professor in Stockholm, who allegedly sliced off his wife's lower lip and ate it, has been charged with aggravated assault.

According to TheLocal.se, the 52-year-old man said to be a respected researcher at the Karolinska Institute, north of Stockholm, also sliced his wife's arms in the attack, the Age reported.

Prosecutors revealed that he got upset with his wife when she asked for a divorce and flew into a jealous rage.

''He did it so that she would never be able to kiss again and said 'I'll get four years, but you're getting a life sentence,'' prosecutor Jakob Holmberg said.

The professor reportedly has several children from a previous marriage, and just a few weeks after getting a divorce from his first wife, he married his current wife, a much younger woman.

According to Aftonbladet , the professor, who had begun to suspect that his new wife was having an affair, allegedly decided to punish her by disfiguring her.

According to an unnamed source, the perpetrator didn't want the lips of his wife sewn back, which is why he simply ate them.

''He didn't want the lips to be able to be sewn back on,'' the Age quoted an unnamed source as telling Agence France-Presse.

And even though plastic surgeons have attempted to rebuild the woman's lower lip, the injury is permanent.

If convicted, the man will face a minimum sentence of four years in prison and a maximum of 10 years.
