Thousands march against Tunisia prez

Tunis: Thousands of Tunisians demanded the departure of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in marches in the capital and other towns on Friday, a day after he pledged to not seek another term to end growing unrest.

"No to Ben Ali, the uprising continues," hundreds shouted in a march down the main boulevard in central Tunis, Avenue Bourguiba, as police stood watch, reporters said.

In demonstrations in other towns, including western Sidi Bouzid where a wave of protests was unleashed mid-December, thousands of marchers shouted 'Ben Ali out', reporters said.
