A woman in Greater Manchester, North West of England, was taken to hospital after what eyewitnesses described as a 'tornado', hit parts of the town.

The BBC reported the woman suffered from cuts and bruises. There were also reports of wind damage in parts of Blackburn, Lancashire.

Eyewitnesses described the Greater Manchester incident as a 'brief tornado'.

"It looked like a scene out of the Wizard of Oz," the BBC quoted an eyewitness as saying.

"The sky went black and I saw it all whirling around. It was like something that you've never seen before."
