Tunisian ex-President’s sister arrested
Tunisian authorities arrested the sister of the country’s toppled President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali as part of a continuing crackdown against the former first family, state media reported on Friday.
Najet Ben Ali, who had been the subject of an arrest warrant, was detained on Thursday evening in the Sousse region, around 150 kilometres (90 miles) south of Tunis, according to the official TAP news agency.
Since the former President fled Tunisia in the wake of a nationwide uprising and took refuge in Saudi Arabia, authorities here have arrested more than 30 of his close associates and relatives, including one of his brothers.
The interim authorities in Tunisia have also demanded the former president's extradition from Saudi, along with his second wife Leila Trabelsi.
