UN Council calls meet over raid

The United Nations Security Council will meet on Monday afternoon for an emergency session to discuss Israel’s storming of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, Security Council diplomats said.
Diplomats said the meeting would start at 1 pm but they gave no further details.
At least 10 pro-Palestinian activists were killed in the storming, which has sparked widespread condemnation.
The outrage, which included United Nations condemnation of civilian deaths in international waters, sounded at times more uniformly hostile to the Jewish state than during its offensive in Gaza 18 months ago.

India has deplored the tragic loss of life and the reports of killings and injuries to people on the boats carrying supplies for Gaza.
“There can be no justification for such indiscriminate use of force, which we condemn,” the external affairs ministry said in a statement.
“We extend our sympathies to the families of the dead and wounded. It is our firm conviction that lasting peace and security in the region can be achieved only through peaceful dialogue and not through use of force,” the statement added.
