UN says convoy in Ivory Coast attacked
A UN convoy in Ivory Coast was on Tuesday attacked in Abidjan by a large crowd, with one peacekeeper suffering a machete wound and a vehicle set alight, the United Nations said.
"A convoy of three vehicles of the UN operation in Ivory Coast (ONUCI) carrying 22 peacekeepers was attacked Tuesday," the UN said in a statement.
"A large crowd encircled the convoy, wounding a soldier's arm with a machete and setting fire to one of the three vehicles," it said.
It happened in the Yopougon neighbourhood of Abidjan, home to supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, who is under international pressure to quit power.
The UN mission added the situation has "returned to normal" thanks to intervention by the Army Chief of staff loyal to Gbagbo.
