US backs gay rights as human rights
The United States on Tuesday asserted that it strongly supports gay rights and considers them as human rights even as its embassy in Islamabad was being slammed by Right wingers for organising an event in their support.
“I think you know how strongly this (State) Department and Secretary (of State, Hillary) Clinton feels about these issues; that gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights and that we will speak out for what we think is right anywhere in the world, including in Pakistan,” the State Department spokesman, Victoria Nuland, told reporters at her daily news conference.
However, Nuland, said she was not aware of any protest letter from Pakistan against the event organised by the US Embassy in Islamabad in support of the gay rights. There has been a number of rallies in Pakistan protesting against the event.
