US condemns terrorist attacks in Iraq
The US has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq and pledged support to the Iraqi government as it takes necessary steps to combat terrorism and intensify efforts to protect all its citizens, including vulnerable religious minorities.
“The United States strongly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, which were perpetrated by Al Qaeda in Iraq against Christians in Baghdad in their homes and in their churches,” US National Security spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.
“We also strongly condemn additional attacks against innocent civilians throughout Iraq, to include pilgrims in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala,” he said.
“We offer sincerest condolences to the families of the victims and to all the people of Iraq who are targeted by terrorism,” Hammer added.
America remains steadfast in its commitment to stand with the Iraqis as they reject violence and resist efforts by Al Qaeda to spark sectarian tension during this critical period in which the next government is being formed, the spokesman said.
