US told India Pak regime weakening
Islamabad, Dec. 4: The US special representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mr Richard Holbrooke, told the Indian foreign secretary, Ms Nirupama Rao, that the Pakistan President, Mr Asif Ali Zardari’s government was weakening, according to an expose by whistleblowing website Wikileaks.
In a meeting with Ms Rao on January 18, 2010 in New Delhi, Mr Holbrooke spoke about the evolving political landscape in Pakistan with a weakening Mr Zardari and the relationship between the chief of army staff, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Prime Minister Mr Yousuf Raza Gilani, Pakistan Muslim League, Mr Nawaz Sharif and Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, The News International reported.
During the meeting, Ms Rao described the Indian effort in Afghanistan, saying it was transparent and focused on strengthening governance and should not threaten Pakistan.
