US, UN condemn bombing in Pakistan

The US and the UN have strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pakistan's Khyber Agency that killed over 30 people and injured 60 others.

"The United States strongly condemns the bombing at a marketplace in Jamrud, in the Khyber Agency," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters.

"By callously targeting innocent people, the extremists who planned and perpetrated this attack are just showing their contempt for the value of human life," Nuland said.

The US offers its condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and remains deeply committed to working with Pakistan to address these kinds of terrorist threats and the results of violent extremism. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also condemned the terrorist bombing.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban noted the high casualty toll, particularly the number of children killed or wounded. "He extends his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and reiterates the continued solidarity of the United Nations with the people and Government of Pakistan in their continuing efforts to confront terrorism and extremism," the statement said.
