Vatican names India-born as envoy to UN

Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday named India-born Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt as the Holy See’s top envoy to the UN. Chullikat, 57, takes up the position of Holy See Permanent Observer at the UN, replacing Archbishop Celestino Migliorewho who was named the Vatican’s apostolic nuncio to Poland.
Born in Bolghatty, Kerala, Chullikat, who has a degree in Church law, was ordained in 1978. —DPA
