Was Pakistan ring sending terrorists to Olympics 2012?
A British tabloid claimed on Monday it had busted a visa scam that gave potential terrorists a chance to sneak into Britain with the Pakistan Olympic team.
“We infiltrated a crime ring offering false passports, visas, and access to London 2012 as bogus support staff,” the Sun claimed Monday. The alleged scam was being run by Pakistani officials, a Lahore politician and the Dream Land Travel Agency in Lahore, the Sun said.
An undercover investigator infiltrated the ring offering false passports and visas, and was provided a genuine Pakistani passport with a fake name.
Lahore politician Abid Chodhary was covertly filmed saying he could get him a two-month visa and smuggle him into London as part of Pakistan’s Olympic squad for £7,000. The tabloid alerted the home office, MI6, UK Border Agency and the British high commission in Islamabad.
Pakistan on Monday suspended eight officials in Lahore of the National Database and Registration Authority, a PTI report from Islamabad adds.
