Women banned from shopping alone in Pak province

Police in Lakki Marwat, one of the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, have banned women from shopping in the markets without being accompanied by a male relative in Ramazan.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanaullah Khan said women coming out for shopping without a male relative to bazaars would be arrested.

He said the decision had been taken keeping in view the sanctity the Ramazan, the Daily Times reports.

The decision was made during a meeting on Friday, which was attended by Khan, local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Malik Ikamullah, shopkeepers’ union president Malik Jehanzeb Hassan.

According to the paper, Khan also warned the shopkeepers to avoid profiteering and price-hike.

He also assured that complete security would be provided to the worshippers during ‘taraveeh’ prayers at the mosques.
