‘I don’t go out on dates, I stay indoors’

Following this column every Sunday, I am barraged with questions. I hope to answer a selection of them, once a month. So start asking... meanwhile here’s the first instalment:

Rumour has it that you have either gone underground or to the underworld after the response to Department. Which one is it and why?
Both the rumours are true for once. I have gone underground to prepare for my film on 26/11 terrorist attacks, and I have also gone into the underworld to carry out some research.

Are you the media’s darling or nightmare?
Ha ha! Neither. I think I’m the media’s joker in the pack.

I am a 22-year-old girl from Patna. I want to act. What would you advise me, sir?
I would advise you not to take the advice of anyone — mine, your parents’ or your friends’. If it helps I can just tell you that I could become whatever I have by going against everyone’s advice.

Ramuji, why don’t you make a sequel to Satya?
I have a name for it Satya Shivam Sundaram. Thanks. I would prefer to make a sequel to Satyam Shivam Sundaram and screw it up the way I did by remaking Sholay as Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag.

Why is Anurag Kashyap making nasty statements about you?
He has stated that he will work with you only on the condition that, you would have to be the RGV he once knew...and not the RGV of today. To start with, I never asked him to work with me. I am what I am. And I love him too.

Which of your heroines do you remember most fondly?
Frankly, I am much too occupied with working on my future projects. I don’t have any time for memories of the near or distant-past.

Besides Hyderabadi women, what do you like most about the town you hail from?
The only things I like in Hyderabad are Puri Jaganath’s office and only those people who read my column in Deccan Chronicle.

Sridevi is making a comeback. Is that a wise decision?
No matter what, Sridevi will always be my favourite actress and I am thrilled that she is returning to acting. She’s looking more gorgeous than ever in the theatrical trailer of English Vinglish.

If given a choice would you rather make a film about crime, politics or horror?

I would love to make a film on horrifying crime in politics.

What is the best part of being in Bollywood? And the worst?
The best part is making films and the worst, when they flop.

Have you seen Gangs of Wasseypur?
Yes. And the work of both Anurag Kashyap and Manoj Bajpayee is downright brilliant.

Which film are you looking forward to see?
S.S. Rajamouli’s Eega. I am convinced that it will raise the level of Indian cinema by leaps and bounds.

What if you had to have lunch with Karan Johar?
I do not have lunch.

Who is your drinking companion?
Whoever’s company I am seeking for the night.

What do you do when you go out on a date?
I don’t go out on dates. I stay indoors.

Can you write about your dreams and nightmares please?
Dumbo! What do you think I’ve been doing in this column all these Sundays?

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
