Scared of getting a sleazy image
An actor is as good as his or her last film and it seems Tia Bajpai lives her career by this rule. The Haunted star, who will next be seen in Vikram Bhatt’s modern day folklore Lanka, has asked the director to chop some of her scenes. She was apparently unhappy with the way some bold scenes were shot.
“The script had a few such scenes, but when we began shooting, Maqbool (the director) said that the required impact was missing and that he wanted to shoot them differently. Since it was an outdoor shoot, I could not even walk out. Being a professional, I decided to go with the flow. But when I saw the edited version, I was very upset. You simply can’t do this to someone,” says Tia.
She has even approached Vikram Bhatt, who has spoken to Maqbool. “I was not comfortable with the edited scenes. But at the moment we are trying to sort it out. And I hope it works out well for all of us,” says the actress who feels that the scenes will affect her image in Bollywood. “I don’t want to be portrayed as a desperate actress, who is ready to do anything; I don’t wish to be a part of that category. I want to be known as a good actress and not some sex queen, who wears skimpy clothes. Your initial years in Bollywood can either make or break you. So I have to be careful with what I do.”
Tia, however, isn’t averse to the idea of bold scenes if the script demands them. “I don’t believe in limiting myself. I look at the bold scenes in two ways: either they are required in the script or they are just shot to grab eyeballs. I’d rather go with the former. In Haunted for instance, there was a rape sequence, but it was required. Without that the story doesn’t go anywhere. Even in Lanka, the scene was needed but I am not happy with the way it was shot. It needs to look real for the audience to connect.”
Tia’s co-star Manoj Bajpayee supports her. “Manoj too seemed to be a bit edgy while shooting the bold scenes. He was worried about what would I think of it, but then I just kept encouraging him. I told him that it is okay and part of the profession. When I am on the sets, I become very possessive and give my best.”
Tia plays the character of a girl from Uttar Pradesh called Dr Anju. She is simple, sweet but cannot really give it back to anyone. The movie also stars Manoj Bajpayee and Arjan Bajwa in pivotal roles. The film is set to release on December 9 and hopefully by then Tia’s issues will be resolved.
