‘Kajol and SRK of the 21st century’

If I have a deep dark secret, the last person I would tell is Karan Johar (this impossible scenario could happen!). It has been four years since we had Koffee with Karan and on behalf of all those ‘celebrity gossip’ hungry people (also known as anyone reading this) I say welcome back. Four years ago, Katrina Kaif had thinner lips, Dostana had not seen the light of day, and Saif Ali Khan did not stupidly get a ‘Kareena’ tattoo. The reruns of past seasons kept us entertained with a thirst for more and Karan Johar full of charm played perfect host on the season premier.

Star World’s countdown to the show, which started several hours before the show premier did not help contain my excitement. Besides the hype surrounding Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, I had watched Action Replayy over the weekend (I grudgingly admit that Aishwarya Rai looks gorgeous at 37) so I was looking forward to seeing the power couple on the show. I dig Abhishek Bachchan on the show and conversations shared between him and Karan (apparently I’m on first name basis with him) and I would ditch Aishwarya Rai, but more so her laughs, which were borderline shrieks. I dig the chemistry shared between the couple and easy banter shared on the show, his wit and her grace extremely evident. What had me snickering was seeing Aishwarya Rai’s expression falter with Shobhaa De’s passive aggressive jibe. Time flew and it was soon time for the ‘Rapid Fire’ round, Aishwarya Rai was smartly vague and Abhishek Bachchan — clever and fun.
Imran Khan and Ranbhir Kapoor are guests on the show next week and from the electrifying chemistry they seem to share on the show I think we just found the ‘Kajol and SRK’ of the 21st century!

The writer is a self-confessed sitcom addict and a college student

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
