A disappointing ‘test’

Shattered. Sad. Disappointed. Indian cricket fans are disheartened by Team India’s performance against England in the ongoing Test Series. Our team’s loss by 242 runs to England in Edgbaston ensured that the English team takes over the number one Test team ranking from India. Whether it was Sehwag’s King Pair or Stuart Broad’s awesomeness, teens are having heated discussions about the series and the game.
Harsh Jain, a 19-year-old student at CMS says, “Dravid was even called back to the ODI team. But I think the newer players should get a chance to play. They have put up great performances in the recent past and if there chosen, they will be trained as they tour internationally.” He feels after the World Cup win and being number one, our team has taken things for granted, “I was shocked to see that the match was over in three and a half days! India should have more practice sessions. Also, there were too many injured players. Zaheer was injured and Sehwag was out for two ducks in the third Test,” says Harsh, who feels that fitness levels are of utmost importance. “Everyone at our local cricket tournament is talking about how England has taken over India’s position.”
Student of IIJNM Aswin Kanumarath feels that our current batting line-up is really good, but adds, “They’ve played too much cricket over the year. First the World Cup, then IPL and then the West Indies series. It’s not like we’re a bad team — we are one of the best. But England really has great bowlers.”
The lack of practice sessions was a big blow, he says, adding, “I hope we win the fourth test at least. I just can’t watch a whitewash.”
Student Arjun Chopra, sports captain of his college too feels that our team went wrong mainly because of lack of practice sessions. “No proper preparation means that we have not been able to adapt well. I feel players like Murali Vijay, R Ashwin should be taken and Virat Kohli should be brought back.”
He adds, “It’s typical for Indian cricketers to be not as fit as the other countries’ players.”
Disappointed, he is expecting a 4-0 in this series and says, “England’s game is the best right now compared to the last five years. Our team doesn’t have the hunger to win right now.”
Here’s hoping our team bounces back and goes right to the top, again!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
