Friendship? It’s a boy girl thing!
You’re fighting with your boyfriend or girlfriend, your grades have been slipping in school and you’re parents are making life difficult for you. You’re just frustrated. And suddenly like an angel, your best friend calls you at that very moment when you are in desperate need to talk to someone.
We’re all pretty familiar with having that one best friend without whom we seem pretty dysfunctional. But lately, teens prefer having that one friend in the opposite gender.
But like any other relationship, guy and girl best friends also have disagreements. But over what issues do these problems arise?
Student Adrian Raj says, “When one of the best friends starts dating, the other one feels deprived of attention and less important. There have also been many fights between me and my friend over her being possessive about me. Guys just like their space sometimes.”
Sometimes, due to the different mind sets of girls and guys, many fights arise.
“Guys aren’t as sensitive as expected to be and you cannot approach them or be open with them about many things!” exclaims Aashna Rao, 18.
This in turn can lead to more problems between friends, as one may feel that the other isn’t sharing everything with them and in turn feel less important and left out.
Krish Kumar feels that in a friendship with a girl best friend, the girl turns out to be bossier and always disagrees with what the guy says. “The girl always turns out to give more lectures, and never gives the guy a chance to express how he feels.”
But sometimes, is it only an issue between the two friends that can lead to a fight? Kanika Vaish, 16, says, “Problems also arise when the surrounding friends start cracking jokes and passing comments about the guy and girl being best friends. People need to understand that these jokes affect how a person thinks and influences one of them into doing something that can hurt the other.”
