Going Gaga over scary Halloween

Halloween is right round the corner and you have a plethora of exciting ideas to choose from. Break free from tried and tested 70s and vampire themes and go for the blue-skinned Avatar look instead. Try Wonder Woman, become an oil-slicked ostrich or turn yourself into a reality show wannabe.
Already on the look out for the perfect, stylishly weird Halloween costume, for many youngsters, the sensational Lady Gaga serves just what the doctor ordered, an inspiration. “I don’t mind being as wild and fearlessly experimental the way Gaga is. Wouldn’t it be awesome to dress up as a decaying corpse? A meat wig can be a nice accessory with a simple blood stained white tee. Watching a few Lady Gaga numbers, am sure one is going to get enough ideas for the Halloween,” giggles Mehvish Mir, 19, a student.
Interestingly, in tune with the Gaga craze, international designer Onch has gone ahead to create a meat-necklace, made with animal free plastic. The necklace is so disgusting that some fashion addicts are sure they will pick it up for the big night. “It might not be available in India, but we can always create something on similar lines,” adds Mehvish.
Sriraj Sengupta, an engineering student and his friends are contemplating something sporty to keep up the mood. “Dressing up in a steel costume, as a fencing player is sure going to be fun. To get the perfect look, add a mask and sword,” he says. However for Sriraj, a pirate remains the perfect pitch. “The look has been there for a while now, but it’s surely the best bet. Girls are going to go crazy the moment they spot a pirate like Johnny Depp,” he adds.
Regular partygoers and fashionistas also hope for an out-of-the-box, spooky look for this Halloween. “While dressing up for the night, it should show that you have put in enough efforts and thought to get ready. So, I would recommend a royal and dramatic look. Something like a Duke and Duchess — flowy gowns, elaborate hairdos and of course the trademark pumpkin masks. The Dracula mask could add fun to the overall attire,” says Sylvie, a hairstylist who enjoys Halloween every year.
Also, keeping the weather in mind one can go for a bold look with full body oil paint. “If it turns out to be slightly cold, nice electric blue or shocking pink, or glowing stocking would look fascinating,” suggests Rayshita Sachdev, 19, a fashion student. “It’s about dressing stylishly weird, but without compromising on comfort,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
