It’s all about haute fashion

When a family friend mentioned that she is attending Parson School of Design, like most who are a fan of Project Runway, the first question I asked her was “Have you seen Heidi Klum or Tim Gunn yet?” She smiled widely and replied “Yeah, Tim Gunn.” I wanted to know all the details! What was he wearing? What is he like in person? Was the current season of Project

Runway in progress? Unfortunately, she couldn’t tell me much. Nevertheless, Project Runway is an amazing show! Heidi Klum is the perfect host, Tim Gunn is the guy everyone loves to hate, Michael Kors is sweet, while the same cant be said about Nina Garcia and the contestants are pure talent covered in delicious entertainment! Some reality shows are trashy, some are staged but shows like Project Runway are exciting to watch because it is a delicate mix of drama, politics and palpable pressure. Some of the creations are gorgeous especially the purple strapless created by one of the finalist for Heidi Klum a few seasons ago. However, contestants sometimes wrap rags around a model and call it haute couture — it’s creations like these that make the show exciting! (How many really good clothes can you sigh over?). Some of the challenges contestants face this season are extremely innovative — like creating outfits out of newspapers, reconstructing a divorcee’s wedding gown to a new outfit, creating outfits for pregnant women (Rebecca Romjin is a guest judge!). I have watched a couple episodes and this season is as promising as seasons past. Expect a slew of guest judges this season some of them like Monique Lhuillier are perfect while others are random — like Lindsey Lohan (what were they thinking?!). Overall, it is a great show currently on its ninth season. If you love fashion and drama this show is for you.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
