Rafa vs Fedex
He did it again! Rafael Nadal won the French Open for the sixth time and with 10 Grand Slam titles to his credit, (including a Career Grand Slam) and also an Olympic gold medal, he still is the world number one. However, despite being called an ‘aging’ player, Roger Federer fans feel that there’s no one quite like their hero, who’s often hailed as the ‘king of tennis.’
Federer’s ardent supporters think Fed’s still got it in him to make the younger players sweat it out on the arena. Says Uma Chembrolu, a final year engineering student, “He has a certain charm and grace when he plays and I admire that. You can see how much love and passion he has for the game.” Younger players may have the adrenaline rush in them, but Uma says, “It’s not easy to beat someone who loves the game so much and plays with so much zest as Federer does. Rafa’s obviously made a mark, but he’s definitely not a Federer!”
Ainsley Boye, student from St Joseph’s Arts and Science College, says. “Watching Nadal play is a treat. I’ve been a huge fan from the time he started winning Grand Slams. The style of playing and his on field attitude inspires any sports person. I’m looking forward to the Wimbledon — hope Nadal continues with the same form.”
Nadal winning the French Open for the sixth time makes him the greatest player, believes Varun, a student from Indo Asian Academy College. “The win against Federer is special because he’s a tough opponent. Nadal’s main strength is his powerful serve. He’s improved his back hand shots tremendously. I hope he takes the Wimbledon title home.” But Fedex aficionado Vediks S says, “He’s the most humble player I’ve seen on court. He’s classy and doesn’t make a fuss.” Vedika thinks Fedex still has it in him to achieve great victories. “After watching the score line of the Djokovic-Federer clash, I think he’s surely got it in him. He’s going to carry on till the Olympics and I’m sure he will impress till then,” she adds.
