Two engineering students were killed in a freak mishap at the Anavathil junction near Eloor on Sunday evening.

The dead were identified as Jain K. Joseph (21) of Chengamanad in Aluva and K.P. Shobhinath (21) of Thrikkanapuram in Malappuram. Both are final year students of Mala Engineering College.

Eyewitnesses said the motorbike, in which the duo was traveling, hit on a stationary container lorry on the side of the highway.

According to the police, the students died on the spot. It is learnt that they were going to their college from Kochi.

Source close to the family of the deceased said that the two students came to Kochi a few days ago for their engineering project.

Police took their bodies to the Ernakulam General Hospital. Later on Sunday night, the relatives of the deceased came to the hospital and collected the bodies.
