21 SF colleges’ performance bad: Panel
The expert committee appointed by Kerala high court has submitted a list of 21 under performing self-financing colleges in the state, and recommended initiation of action against these colleges.
The court had recently directed the state and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to close down low performing college in the state. It is learnt that the AICTE will file a report after studying the report filed by the committee.
As per the report, 14 colleges under Kerala University, six colleges under Calicut university and one college under the Kannur University were ‘under-performers.
’ The seven-member committee headed by Dr G. Rajendran submitted before a bench comprising Justices C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Babu Mathew P. Joseph.
I t said that 34 colleges in the state came under ‘average’ category, five colleges under ‘satisfactory’ category and 65 colleges under ‘best’ performing category.
The committee analysed the educational quality, pass percentage, faculty facilities and the infrastructure at these colleges.

The court had asked the state to take steps to raise the quality of higher education in the state. The state should also consider enhancing the qualifying examination mark from 50 per cent.
